None of these assets cost anything to provide and there are no socio-economic, racial, or geographic groups that are less able to provide these assets to their youth. Each classroom is paired with one or more of our asset-trained parent volunteer readers, who visit the classroom once a month to read the book of the month, lead a discussion and facilitate activities based on the book. Lessons focus on developing positive social skills and building one or more of the developmental assets. Many of the lessons, especially during the first year of the ABC program, are aimed at decreasing peer abuse.

These anti-bullying practices benefit everyone. Studies show that bullying is not only harmful to the target; children who fail to develop more appropriate social skills go on to struggle in school, in personal relationships, and in their careers.
